Job summary

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Staff Auditor II to join the Rapid Response Division to assist with investigations and performance audits that strengthen accountability and transparency in state programs. You will work as part of a team to plan and complete audits, interview auditees and legislators, conduct on-site fieldwork, and review records to identify risks and controls.

Job description

The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Staff Auditor II to serve on our Rapid Response Division to assist with various investigations and performance audits that strengthen accountability and enhance transparency and efficiency of North Carolina government programs.

As part of our team, you will get to:

Work as part of a team to plan and complete audits of a diverse range of topics and programs

Speak with auditees, agency management, and legislators to understand the programs under an audit

Conduct on-site fieldwork, including information gathering and interviews, to determine:

Risks impacting the program under an audit

To identify processes and controls that mitigate program risks

Review and analyze source records, programmatic data, financial and program documentation, and/or systems

Document the results of your work and any potential findings and recommendations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Intermediate or working knowledge of auditing/accounting principles and practices
• Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple priorities
• Demonstrated experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing
• Strong experience in report writing

Minimum Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and 3 years of experience in auditing/accounting or program evaluation
