Job summary

The City of Walla Walla is seeking an Emergency Services Dispatcher to receive calls for ambulance, fire, and law enforcement assistance and to dispatch the appropriate units. The role requires handling concurrent tasks, maintaining CAD records, and delivering EMD instructions by phone.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of emergency dispatch experience, and WA PST & ACCESS certifications, with typing speed of 40 wpm and CPR/First Aid within 6 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent is required.
• Two (2) years of emergency services dispatching experience.
• Must type at least 40 wpm and be computer literate.
• Current Washington State Public Safety Telecommunicator and ACCESS Certification.
• First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
• Background investigation must verify no prior criminal conviction or activity.
• Ability to obtain an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certificate within one year of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and determine priority of response.
• Dispatch appropriate units and maintain radio contact with field units.
• Maintain CAD records and ensure accurate data entry of incident details.
• Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions by phone according to procedures.
• Perform typing and other general clerical functions and work multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for disseminating public information from diverse agencies.
