Job summary

Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) is seeking multiple full-time Staff Attorneys to join our Rapid Response team, working on the front lines of immigration enforcement to defend individuals facing detention, deportation, and family separation.

As part of ImmDef's fastest-growing program, you will visit detention centers, meet with arrestees, assess options, pursue release strategies, and represent clients in bond proceedings and habeas petitions while advancing civil rights protections for

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required.
• Active California State Bar license or willingness to waive into the CA Bar.
• Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills.
• Willingness to zealously pursue new and untested legal theories.

Responsibilities

• Provide urgent, client-centered legal assistance to detained individuals.
• Frequently travel to detention centers to meet clients and provide timely counsel.
• Assess clients' immigration histories and proceedings to identify defenses and release options.
• Evaluate detention and bond eligibility and pursue relief through habeas petitions.
• Collaborate with teammates to identify systemic issues and ensure effective advocacy.
