Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a Ranch Superintendent to lead, direct, and coordinate the overall day-to-day operations of WJP Ranch. This role serves as the primary field leader for the property and is accountable for ensuring ranch operations, personnel, livestock, facilities, equipment, vendors, and ongoing projects are managed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The expectation is to understand the work, establish priorities, coordinate the right people and resources, hold others accountable, and ensure work is carried through to completion.

The successful Ranch Superintendent will approach the property with an ownership mentality, identifying what needs to happen before being asked and creating an operation where ownership does not need to manage the day-to-day details.

Field Leadership & Ranch Operations
  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of WJP Ranch, serving as the primary point of accountability for the property.
  • Establish daily, weekly, seasonal, and long-range priorities across ranch operations, maintenance, livestock, and property improvements.
  • Direct ranch personnel, contractors, vendors, and service providers, ensuring clear expectations, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Regularly assess property conditions, anticipate needs, and proactively resolve issues before they impact operations.
  • Maintain visibility across the operation while empowering the team to solve problems at the appropriate level.
  • Step in hands-on when needed to support the team, troubleshoot issues, or complete time-sensitive work.
Planning & Execution
  • Plan and coordinate the people, equipment, materials, and outside resources necessary to execute work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance and improvement plans for the property, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Ensure work and projects have clear ownership, priorities, and expectations and are followed through to completion.
  • Anticipate operational challenges and drive solutions with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and long-term stewardship of the property.
Team Leadership & Accountability
  • Lead, coach, and develop ranch personnel while fostering teamwork, personal responsibility, and pride in the property.
  • Assign responsibilities based on operational priorities and individual capabilities.
  • Hold team members accountable for safety, quality, productivity, organization, and follow-through.
  • Address performance or execution issues directly and promptly.
Property, Land & Livestock Management
  • Oversee the condition and maintenance of ranch buildings, barns, shops, roads, fencing, gates, pastures, drainage, landscaping, and other infrastructure.
  • Ensure livestock care, feeding, watering, fencing, pasture conditions, and general animal welfare needs are properly managed.
  • Coordinate veterinary and specialized livestock services as needed.
  • Oversee pasture maintenance, mowing, brush and vegetation management, and other land-management activities.
  • Maintain the ranch in a clean, organized, functional condition that is consistently ready for ownership, family, and guests.
Equipment & Asset Management
  • Oversee ranch vehicles, tractors, trailers, ATVs/UTVs, tools, equipment, fuel, parts, and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance and service schedules.
  • Identify equipment issues early and coordinate repairs or specialized service as needed.
  • Ensure ranch assets are properly maintained, organized, stored, and used responsibly.
Vendor & Contractor Management
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and specialized service providers working on the property.
  • Establish expectations for scope, schedule, cost, safety, quality, and cleanup.
  • Obtain estimates when appropriate and monitor work through completion.
  • Maintain relationships with reliable vendors and hold outside partners accountable for delivering to expectations.
Safety & Quality
  • Champion a Safety Always mindset throughout ranch operations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment.
  • Proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions, equipment issues, and quality deficiencies.
  • Reinforce the expectation that work is completed safely and correctly the first time.
Communication & Ownership
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with ownership regarding priorities, progress, upcoming needs, risks, and significant issues.
  • Independently handle routine operational decisions while elevating exceptions, recommendations, and decisions requiring ownership involvement.
  • Provide ownership appropriate visibility into ranch operations without requiring ownership to manage the day-to-day operation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience in ranch management, agriculture, construction field leadership, large-property operations, facilities management, or a similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading personnel, contractors, vendors, or field operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of property maintenance, land management, livestock, equipment, and general repair operations.
  • Working knowledge of tractors, trailers, implements, ATVs/UTVs, tools, and related ranch equipment.
  • Proven ability to plan work, allocate resources, manage multiple priorities, and drive work through completion.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, practical field judgment, and ability to make routine operational decisions independently.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
