Job summary

Carmel Valley Ranch seeks a Herd Maintenance Supervisor to oversee daily herd operations, supervise ranch hands, and assist in scheduling. You will feed and care for animals, supervise dairy operations, and maintain herd facilities such as barns and milking parlors.

You will also support the Recreation Team with herd activities for guests. Responsibilities include safety of staff and guests, maintaining records, and coordinating supplies.

Qualifications

• Punctuality and reliable attendance is required
• Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and guest interactions
• Knowledge of general proper animal care/maintenance
• Clear written and verbal communication with team, vendors, and guests
• Good computer skills and ability to maintain records
• Ability to train staff on safe feeding and animal maintenance
• Background in a similar or related field preferred
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather
• Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate light farm vehicles

Responsibilities

• Coordinate care, purchase, feeding, milking, and breeding of herd animals
• Ensure safety of staff, animals, and guests at the Hilltop
• Order and procure animal feed and operating supplies
• Maintain records of animal health and feed purchases
• Maintain equipment, infrastructure, and hygienic herd areas
• Assist Grounds team with grazing programs and Hilltop maintenance
• Plan and implement animal activities for leisure/group guests and members
• Provide attentive, friendly service to guests and coworkers
• Assist in weekly scheduling of herd maintenance staff
