The position involves operating locomotives, interpreting orders and signals, and coordinating car movements in an industrial yard. Outdoor work, physical tasks, and a commitment to safety are essential; the team emphasizes reliability, attendance, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Walk on uneven terrain and climb on rail equipment.
• Must pass physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Military experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives and rail equipment safely.
• Perform railcar switching and placement according to schedules.
• Interpret train orders, signals, and operating procedures.
• Inspect locomotives prior to operation.
• Operate hand and ground throw switches, derails, and gates.
• Coordinate movement using radios, hand signals, and lanterns.
• Couple and uncouple railcars and connect air hoses.
• Apply and release hand brakes to secure equipment.
• Observe tracks for safety hazards and obstructions.
• Complete delays, incidents, or operational reports.
• Assist in training new employees as needed.
