Job summary

Savage is a global provider of supply chain infrastructure and logistics solutions with over 200 locations. We are seeking a Railroad Switchman to join our on-site team in a day shift with some weekend work.

You will spot cars, classify inbound trains, interact with major railroads, and support site partners daily. Responsibilities include inspecting rail cars and air brakes, cross-training across functions, and operating a locomotive once trained.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to perform basic maintenance.
• Ability to travel to other sites for switching and training.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
• Read, write and understand English.
• Clear drug/alcohol test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train.
• Classification of inbound train.
• Interaction with class one railroad.
• Daily spot and pull with other site partners.
• Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brakes inspections.
• Cross train and assist in different facility functions.
• Operate a locomotive - training and certification provided.
• Participate in and promote Savage safety program/SHAPS.
