Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge in Flagstaff, AZ to supervise construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for railroads and transit systems.

The CIC ensures safe work practices within railroad rights-of-way and coordinates with dispatchers and engineers. The role requires travel (50–85%), strong communication, and the ability to conduct thorough job briefings while enforcing all federal and company policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' railroad experience, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E.
• High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments, including multi-month deployments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure FRA compliance during track work (49 CFR 214).
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel clear of active tracks.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio, phone, or electronic systems.
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, logs, and regulatory submissions.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
