Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Lafayette, IN to oversee construction, maintenance and safety within railroad rights-of-way.

The role demands strong safety leadership and regulatory compliance with FRA rules. The CIC will supervise field operations for freight railroads and transit systems, coordinating with dispatchers and engineers while traveling up to 85% of the time.

Qualifications

• Must have solid computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Willing to travel long-term, including multi-month deployments.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' railroad experience, preferably in Maintenance of Way or TY&E

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed.
• Ensure compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214) within arm's length of track.
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities for safety.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio/phone/electronic systems.
• Document all activities including briefings, incident reports, logs, and regulatory submissions.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
