Job summary

Union Tank Car Company in Alabama seeks a Railcar Repair Technician to inspect, repair, and maintain freight cars in a fast-paced production environment. You will read engineering drawings, perform FRA/AAR compliant tasks, and document repair details using paper and electronic records.

The role offers on-site duties with safety as a priority, hands-on welding and mechanical work, and the chance to advance with company training and certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; ability to follow written instructions.
• Ability to safely operate machinery including large work vehicles and forklifts.
• Willingness to obtain welding and airbrake test certifications within 6–12 months.

Responsibilities

• Conduct railcar inspections to FRA, AAR and customer requirements.
• Perform repairs following current safety and quality standards.
• Repair mechanical components on freight cars including tanks and hoppers.
• Occasionally perform welding repairs as needed.
• Coordinate repairs efficiently within assigned hours.
• Maintain a neat work area and report hazards.
