Summary Description

Cathcart Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading freight rail services and transportation company. We employ nearly 1,000 employees in more than 100 locations across 33 states and operate the largest railcar services network in the industry, including 18 large railcar repair facilities and over 75 field services locations, along with a rail services division operating three short line railroads and multiple contract switching and transloading sites.

We currently have multiple Repair Technician positions available. Incumbents will use mechanical skills to safely inspect and repair railcars to customer and industry specifications. Candidates with rail industry or heavy industrial experience, including welding or mechanical assembly, are preferred.

We offer a sign-on/retention bonus of $1,500, payable over the first 12 months, and a competitive pay scale based on skills and experience.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing railcar repairs in compliance with FRA and AAR interchange rules.
• Conducting pre- and post-inspections of railcars.
• Adhering to safety protocols, OSHA, and company safety standards.
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Following written and verbal instructions.
• Working effectively in a team environment.
• Understanding railcar components and work orders.
• Assisting in disassembly and repair of railcars, including mechanical work, grinding, painting, and decaling.
• Operating various hand and power tools, including welding equipment.
• Completing necessary training for equipment operation.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience as a Carman or Railcar Repair Technician is desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and blueprints.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and experience with tools and cutting torches.
• Ability to perform outdoor, physical work involving standing, climbing, and lifting.
• Welding certification (E7018) preferred.
• Effective communication skills.
• Basic math and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to pass physical and drug screenings.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The role involves physical, outdoor work in various weather conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and at heights. Proper body mechanics and safety equipment are essential.
