Job summary

Compass Rail is seeking a Railcar Repair Technician to inspect freight railcars and perform minor repairs to keep equipment in service. You will identify defects, document repairs, and ensure compliance with FRA and AAR standards.

Offsite training may be required in Hamlet, North Carolina. A high school diploma or GED is required, with prior railroad repair experience preferred, and safe tool operation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in mechanical railcar repair or inspection preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and manual inspections of freight railcars for defects or wear.
• Execute minor running repairs such as replacing brake shoes and adjusting rigging.
• Document defects and repair records according to FRA and AAR rules.
• Coordinate car movements with yardmasters and railroad personnel.
• Operate inspection tools and equipment safely and effectively.
