Job summary

Harbor Rail Services is hiring for a Pre-Trip Inspector who conducts thorough inspections of railcars before dispatch. The role ensures compliance with safety protocols and optimal condition for transportation, collaborating with the maintenance team to address issues identified during inspections.

This full-time, in-person position requires a high school diploma, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Valid driver’s license is preferred; safety is a top priority.

Qualifications

• Must meet all physical requirements and be able to follow directions.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience in railcar inspection, maintenance, or a related field preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Basic analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to solve problems.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English fluently and professionally.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure railcars are in proper working order.
• Inspect lading equipment, safety appliances, and interior condition; clean debris and lubricate as needed.
• Identify and report safety concerns, defects, or maintenance needs found during inspections.
• Verify railcar components meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure inspection and repair records are accurate and submitted promptly.
• Communicate with the maintenance team to address issues identified.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Report discrepancies to the Location Supervisor.
• Participate in safety briefings and training to stay updated on standards.
• Ensure inspection tools and equipment are in good working order.
