Job summary

Iron Horse is seeking a Mechanical Technician for the PD Hopper Shop in Beaumont, TX. The role involves hands‑on repair of railcar components, using hand and power tools to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble parts.

A strong mechanical mindset, attention to detail, and teamwork are essential, with training provided as needed. The position offers a Monday–Friday day/evening shift with competitive hourly pay and a shift differential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands‑on work.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble and reassemble mechanical components on specialized railcars.
• Repair, replace, and install components such as bearings, seals, gears, and valves.
• Remove and reinstall bolts and hardware while keeping parts organized.
• Inspect components for wear, damage, or defects and document work.
• Use hand and power tools safely and follow repair procedures.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow PPE requirements.
• Operate tablets and digital systems to document inspections and repairs.

Schedule: Monday–Friday | Day Shift & Evening Shift

Openings: 1 Day Shift | 3 Evening Shift

Iron Horse is growing our PD Hopper Shop and is looking for mechanically‑minded individuals to join our team.

This is a hands‑on mechanical repair position working on specialized railcars used to transport food‑grade products. Technicians use hand and power tools to disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components.

The work requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, organization, and a commitment to doing things correctly. What You’ll Do

• Disassemble and reassemble mechanical components on specialized railcars.
• Repair, replace, and install components such as bearings, seals, gaskets, gears, valves, and other mechanical equipment.
• Remove and reinstall large quantities of bolts, hardware, and components while keeping parts organized.
• Inspect components and identify worn, damaged, or defective parts.
• Use hand tools, pneumatic tools, torque tools, and other shop equipment safely and correctly.
• Follow established repair procedures and quality standards.
• Use tablets and digital systems to document inspections and repair work.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and railcars.
• Follow strict cleanliness standards required for food‑grade railcars.
• Work as part of a team to complete repairs accurately and efficiently.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

Prior mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, automotive, construction, or railcar experience is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train the right person who demonstrates mechanical ability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Basic Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and team lift heavier items when necessary.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in noisy environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, climb, and work with your hands for extended periods.
• Ability to follow strict cleanliness and safety requirements.
