Job summary

Knife River Corporation is seeking a dependable freight/stock handler to move freight, stock, and materials from railcars to trucks at our Sioux Falls operation. Typical hours are Monday–Friday with possible Saturdays; schedules vary by season and demand.

You will safely perform on-site material handling, unload railcars, maintain equipment, and keep records while adhering to OSHA, DOT, and environmental standards. Equal opportunity employer with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays.

Responsibilities

  • Move freight, stock and other materials by hand or by using track mobile on site in a safe and efficient manner while complying with all federal, state, local and company policies.
  • Assist in performing or scheduling repairs or preventive maintenance of vehicles or other equipment. Sometimes performing these at elevated platforms with heavy tools.
  • Unload railcars by operating track mobile on site and/or hand tools.
  • Keeps records of materials received.
  • Keeps facility yard clean and organized.
  • Maintain & clean vehicles, machinery and other equipment and recommends safety improvements.
  • Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, MSHA, Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulation compliance including attending training.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for moving freight, stock, or other materials over short distances from railcars to trucks.


Typical schedule during production season is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM with Saturday as needed. Typical schedule during maintenance season is Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Schedules may vary due to weather and customer demand.


DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES


  • Understanding safe handling of bulk materials, palletized goods, and freight commonly moved in transload operations.

  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices, PPE requirements, hazard communication (HazCom), and safe lifting techniques.

  • Basic knowledge of loading/unloading procedures for trucks, railcars, and containers, including weight distribution and securement practices.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • High School diploma or General Education Degree, or equivalent experience.

  • Driver’s license preferred.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays
