Responsibilities

  • Inspect railcars for visible damage, wear, fatigue, and other serviceability concerns.
  • Examine railcar interiors for debris or contaminants that could damage vehicles.
  • Use backpack blowers, scrapers, and other approved tools to clean railcars.
  • Assist with safely opening, inspecting, and closing railcar end doors.
  • Identify repair needs that may be completed by Road & Rail Services.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, and railcar damage to supervision.
  • Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and report maintenance or replacement needs.
  • Keep work areas clean, orderly, and free of preventable hazards.
  • Complete other railcar preparation and housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to meet daily production requirements.

Railcar Inspector and Preparation Technician

Help Prepare Railcars for Safe Transportation

Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable Railcar Inspector and Preparation Technician in Vance, Alabama. In this hands-on position, you will inspect, clean, and prepare railcars before they are used to transport new vehicles.



This is an active, fast-paced role for someone who is comfortable working around rail equipment, using backpack blowers and hand tools, and completing detailed inspections. Successful employees are safety-conscious, reliable, and willing to contribute wherever the team needs assistance.



The regular start time is 4:30 a.m., and employees must be available to work up to six days per week when customer volume and operational schedules require it.



What You Will Do


Inspect railcars for visible damage, wear, fatigue, and other serviceability concerns


Examine railcar interiors for debris or contaminants that could damage vehicles


Use backpack blowers, scrapers, and other approved tools to clean railcars


Assist with safely opening, inspecting, and closing railcar end doors


Identify repair needs that may be completed by Road & Rail Services


Report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, and railcar damage to supervision


Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures


Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of cleaning tools. Work may be performed outdoors and around active rail equipment in changing weather conditions. Employees must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment and safely complete repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
