Job summary

CF Rail Services is seeking a 2nd shift blasting technician to support the CFRS team in proper railcar surface preparation and coating prep. You will learn to operate blasting equipment, protect components, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

The role requires basic reading, math, and teamwork, with training provided to meet CFRS standards. Work is outdoors on a shift from 3:30pm to 12:00am, with physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs and wearing respirators when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn and adhere to CFRS safety procedures.
• Learn the basic flow and logistics of railroad industry and repair business.
• Keep work area clean and in orderly manner to comply with CFRS, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations.
• Follow written and verbal directions with basic math, reading, and writing skills in a team environment.
• Thorough understanding of railcar, components and/or shop work order.
• Blow off railcars and inspect condition, ensure cleanliness prior to blasting.
• Cover car parts with protective materials to prevent blast media damage.
• Operate blasting equipment to prepare railcar surface for coatings or cleaning.
• Surface preparation of non-railcar components using blast media methods.
• Set up and operate tools such as blasting equipment, grinders, etc.
• Wear PPE in appropriate areas.
• Assist finishing department as required.
• Complete education/formal training requirements by CF Rail Management.
