Job summary

Transtar LLC in Gary, IN seeks an experienced Trainmaster to oversee rail traffic movement, workforce planning, and administrative compliance in an industrial setting. The role requires supervising trains, crews, and adherence to company rules and FRA regulations.

The Trainmaster will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, manage shifting schedules, and ensure safe, efficient operations while meeting service commitments even in inclement weather.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Management, or Business Administration preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Minimum of 2 years of industrial supervisory experience.
• Computer proficiency with MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
• Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Plan manpower, equipment, and materials to serve customers.
• Directs and supervises trains and engine crews for rule compliance.
• Supervise personnel per labor agreement and FRA regulations.
• Maintain good relationships with customers.
• Propose cost reductions and operating changes as needed.
• Promote safe work practices and environment.
• Complete required reports.
• Coordinate transportation activities to move cars and trains efficiently.
