Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LIRR) is seeking personnel to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains under Operating Rules and Special Instructions. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and precise communication to relay train moves and orders.

Responsibilities include operating towers, managing signals, and reporting movements, with mandatory training and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must have a four-year high school diploma or educational equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence.
• Must clearly convey shift transfer information pertinent to the relieving shift.
• Must have effective verbal communication skills.
• Must handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Must read operating rule manuals and write train orders/reports.
• Must report for assignments promptly and follow instructions quickly.

Responsibilities

• Care for and operate block and interlocking stations, towers, and supplies.
• Ensure safe/efficient movement of trains and deliver train orders as per rules.
• Record and report train movements verbally or by computer.
• Operate power control boards and movable bridges when in the tower.
• Operate switches, signals, and bridges to regulate traffic.
• Arrange use of blocks, tracks, interlocks, and signals for safe movement.
