Job summary

Canadian National Inc. is seeking a Rail Track Maintainer for Illinois Central duties, performing outdoor track inspection, repair and replacement tasks across CN’s rail network. The role involves physical work, safety protocols, and potential overtime with training provided.

Provide reliable service in varying weather, operate heavy equipment, and contribute to safe, efficient rail operations. Unionized position with comprehensive benefits and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery.
• Experience in safety/regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair and replace rails, ties, switches and ballasts as needed.
• Maintain hand tools and equipment used for track work.
• Remove/replace defective ties, rails, spikes and anchors.
• Repair track surface deviations and alignment.
• Install/repair street and railroad crossings and related components.
• Unload ballast and distribute track materials.
• Ensure right-of-way is clear of obstacles and debris.
• Follow CN safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
