Job summary

Canadian National Inc. is seeking a Rail Track Maintainer to inspect, repair and replace rails, ties, switches and ballasts. The role operates outdoors in varying weather, with a safety-first mindset and paid training. This is a unionized position with benefits.

The incumbent will work with CN safety policies, perform outdoor tasks, and ensure track safety and compliance. Training spans 3 weeks, 40 hours weekly, leading to full duties in CN's rail networks across North America.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience with safety rules and procedures.
• Ability to work autonomously and in varied conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain CN's rails, ties, switches and ballast through inspection, repair, and replacement.
• Maintain various hand tools for assigned work.
• Remove and replace defective ties, rails spikes, and anchors.
• Repair deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge.
• Install and repair street and railroad crossings and assist in replacing or repairing items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints.
• Unload ballast and distribute track material.
• Sort used track material for loading.
• Ensure railroad right-of-way is clear of brush, vegetation, snow and litter.
• Follow CN safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
