Norfolk Southern Corporation in New Castle, IN is seeking a Track Laborer to perform hands-on track construction, repair, and maintenance as part of a Line Maintenance crew.

The role requires the ability to lift 75 pounds, travel to various sites, work in inclement weather, and operate safely with standard railroad procedures and PPE. Compensation is hourly with progressive pay across years of service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18+ years old and have a valid driver's license.
• Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 75 pounds.
• Willing to travel to multiple job sites, with possible overnight stays.
• Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions.
• Capable of walking up to 5 miles per day on railroad right of way.

Responsibilities

• Carry and place track materials using hand tools.
• Attach rail to ties using spike mauls or drivers.
• Remove spikes with claw bars and spike lifters.
• Lift, position, and install railroad crossties.
• Connect and disconnect rail using track and welding tools.
• Move, clean, and tamp ballast using shovels and ballast forks.
• Raise tracks, turnouts, and rails with jacks.
• Cut materials with torches and saws.
• Drill holes with various drill motors.
• Work alongside heavy equipment and direct movements.
• Participate in safety meetings and wear PPE.
