Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 75 pounds.
• Willing to travel to various job sites, including overnight stays.
• Capable of walking up to 5 miles per day on railroad right of way.
• Able to work in inclement weather.
• Capable of working unsupervised at times.

Responsibilities

• Carry and place track materials using hand tools.
• Attach rail to ties with spike mauls or spike drivers.
• Remove spikes with claw bars and spike pullers.
• Lift and position railroad crossties within track structure.
• Connect and disconnect rail using track/wrenches or welding materials.
• Move and tamp ballast with shovels and ballast forks.
• Raise tracks and crossings with jacks.
• Cut materials with various saws and torches.
• Drill holes with power drills.
• Work with heavy equipment and direct material movement.
