Job summary

Metra is seeking a System Safety Engineer to define, plan, and coordinate regulatory safety activities, training, and safety compliance across its six-county service area. The role emphasizes system safety, hazard analyses, and incident investigations, serving as a subject-matter expert for safety programs.

You will lead safety training, develop proactive risk mitigation plans, and collaborate with management, staff, and external stakeholders on safety improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety and occupational health, safety engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Define, plan, and coordinate regulatory safety activities, training, and compliance.
• Investigate safety defects and unsafe conditions; report to government agencies.
• Perform root cause analyses and develop corrective actions.
• Coordinate safety programs across internal departments and external stakeholders.
