Job summary

BART is seeking an experienced transportation safety professional to lead a comprehensive rail operations safety program that protects employees, riders, and critical infrastructure. This leadership role requires strategic oversight of safety systems, audits, investigations, and continuous improvement across the Operations Safety Division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, industrial hygiene or related field.
• Five years of verifiable professional safety programs experience.
• Two years of administrative and supervisory experience.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Develops, manages, and administers safety-related activities of the Operations Safety Division.
• Investigates safety-related rail operations accidents and incidents.
• Identifies and reports safety hazards to senior management and CPUC; tracks corrective actions.
• Manages rail safety policies and procedures (Operations Rules and Procedures, Roadway Protection Manual).
• Acts as safety liaison with other divisions and outside agencies; negotiates issues.
• Coordinates training with District and local fire protection services; plans drills.
• Participates in Safety Management System implementation and regulatory transitions.
