Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Railroad Operations Manager responsible for directing all aspects of railroad operations, maximizing efficiency and profits, and coordinating with customers, carriers, and regulators.

The role requires leadership of managers and staff, ability to analyze performance, and a strong knowledge of railroad disciplines. Bachelor’s degree preferred; certification like locomotive engineer is a plus; MS Office skills expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of management experience.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; two years related experience may substitute.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, CFRs, and monthly financial reports.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; prior sales and marketing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Hire and supervise managers and staff; train, assign and direct work, appraise performance, discipline, and resolve problems.
• Submit annual business plan and analyze daily/monthly performance to adjust operations.
• Establish and maintain the railroad’s credibility with customers.
• Engage with community, carriers, suppliers, and governmental entities to foster relations.
• Represent the railroad within industry trade associations.
• Assist with other projects and duties as assigned.
