Job summary

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) seeks a Rail Engineer to oversee the safe operation, movement, and security of trains under the Transportation Department. You will manage crews, coordinate with the Rail Ops Supervisor, and ensure compliance with GCOR, FRA, and contract requirements.

This on-site role includes occasional night, weekend, and holiday shifts at Fort Sill, OK and other remote sites. Applicants must hold an active Railway Engineer license, pass pre-employment screening, and meet

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Active Railway/Railroad Engineer license, current and valid required.
• Must be able to complete online Container Inspection for Commercial and Military Intermodal Containers, MIL HDBK 138A.
• Must be able to obtain Forklift license for all equipment (4K to 50K).
• Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
• Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation result, obtain and maintain a CAC.
• REAL ID-compliant, state-issued driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily rail service operations: scheduling, dispatching, routing, and train movements.
• Ensure trains operate safely within rules; manage speed restrictions and emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with FRA and other safety regulations.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings with staff.
• Coordinate resources: personnel, equipment, budgets per contract.
• Supervise maintenance of rail systems, locomotives and rolling stock.
• Track metrics, analyze data, report on efficiency and service quality.
• Collaborate with internal teams, other providers, and clients to resolve issues.
• Address passenger and freight customer concerns promptly.
• Deliver services per contract: SLAs, timelines, and quality standards.
• Occasionally work nights, weekends, holidays at Fort Sill, OK and other sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
