Job summary

Metra seeks a Telecommunications Engineer II to design, implement, and maintain communications systems across rail operations in the Chicago region. You will manage in-house engineering projects, liaise with carriers, analyze system performance, and forecast future communication needs while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include field surveys, cost estimation, FCC licensing, and coordination with external vendors.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering Technology or four years telecom experience in lieu.
Five years railroad telecommunications experience preferred.
Knowledge of analog/digital circuits, switching power supplies, and antennas.
Proficient with Windows, MS Office; Linux and MacOS preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Provide recommendations, design requirements, and specifications for communications equipment.
Manage in-house projects and act as liaison to carriers for turnkey projects.
Conduct field surveys, evaluate performance, and forecast communication needs.
Ensure FCC licenses and safety/regulatory compliance.
