Job summary

CSX is seeking a Freight Conductor to safely coordinate train crews, place cars for loading/unloading, and makeup/breakdown trains across assigned locations. New hires are eligible for retention bonuses after year one and year two, with earnings details and OJT pay outlined in the NMAD sections.

Four weeks of paid training at the Atlanta Training Center, hotel lodging, daily meal allowances, and mileage reimbursement are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• One year of related experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and comprehend operating rules, bulletins, regulatory documents and other written communications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad and safety rules, FRA regulations, railroad signals and train orders.
• Safely perform all job responsibilities.
• Inspect all equipment on cars prior to departures.
• Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders and switch lists.
• Assist with coupling/uncoupling of cars and operate switches.
• Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars and provide good customer service.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings and suspicious activity for rail safety.
• Operate locomotive equipment using remote control device.
• Understand color and hand signals and systems.
• Review instructions from yardmasters, dispatchers and other transportation staff.
