Job summary

HDR Rail EIT opportunities in Charlotte offer a pathway to grow within a collaborative, employee-owned environment. You’ll work with supervisors and mentors across rail disciplines, gaining exposure to track, facilities, environmental services and advisory support.

Participants will engage in site visits, data analytics and project walkthroughs, while developing technical and professional skills for a rewarding career in rail infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Engineering internship, co-op, research or field experience in engineering, transportation or infrastructure.
  • Active pursuit of professional licensure (EIT/FE) and/or licensure plans.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroStation, Revit or GIS.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design, construction and delivery of rail infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with technical deliverables: calculations, drawings, specs, reports and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, advisory and construction disciplines.

What You’ll Have the Opportunity to:
  • Support the planning, design, construction and delivery of rail infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with technical deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, exhibits and cost estimates.
  • Contribute to a variety of projects involving track, facilities, structures, civil infrastructure, environmental services, construction field services, and advisory support.
  • Participate in site visits, field assessments, inspections, and project walkthroughs.
  • Utilize engineering, design and analytical tools to support project development and delivery.
  • Research and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, advisory, technology and construction disciplines.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers, project managers and technical specialists to develop your technical and professional skills.
  • Travel periodically for project meetings, field assignments, client-related activities and construction support.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or plans to pursue professional licensure.
  • Successful completion of, or plans to take, the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Internship, co-op, research, field or project experience related to engineering, transportation, construction or infrastructure.
  • Experience with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroStation, Revit, GIS, structural analysis software, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Construction inspection, field assessment or surveying experience.
  • Interest in freight rail, transit, industrial, port or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with railroad design, bridge structures, rail facilities, construction management or related disciplines.

Required Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
