Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience in rail cost estimating, manufacturing estimating, railcar repair, or related field.
• Working knowledge of AAR codes, standards, and regulations applicable to railcar repair and billing.
• Experience interpreting customer procedures, specifications, contracts, and repair requirements.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, bills of materials, or engineering models.

Responsibilities

• Review in-bound inspection reports, validate findings, and identify missing information requiring follow-up.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates and customer quotes based on applicable criteria and requirements.
• Analyze estimating issues and evaluate solutions using established procedures.
• Interpret drawings, BOMs, damage assessments, and shop instructions to establish estimate bases.
• Source repair parts and materials, including pricing and availability review.
• Develop comprehensive work orders translating requirements into shop instructions.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, sales, and quality to clarify scope and pricing.
• Maintain records and repair documentation including invoices and repair cards.
• Support estimate-to-billing accuracy by reviewing documentation against approved scope.
• Build knowledge of plant processes and identify processes for future ownership.
• Contribute to standard work and process improvements in cost estimating.
• Perform additional technician or estimating duties as required.
