Job summary

HDR is seeking a Rail Construction EIT/Coordinator to assist the construction and inspection teams on track, civil, structural, and related projects in the region. You will work with Class I railroads, transit agencies, and industrial clients to coordinate drawings, RFIs, submittals, and data while interpreting project documents.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, with knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, and scheduling tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in railroad engineering preferred.
  • Experience or interest in construction field is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction schedules and assist in cost estimates and specs.
  • Perform routine engineering tasks using spreadsheets and scheduling software.
  • Complete projects with clear objectives and limited variables.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger ones.
  • Provide direction to clerical and technical staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

The primary duties of the Rail Construction EIT/Coordinator will be to assist the construction manager and inspection teams on track and civil, structural, facility, and other construction types for a variety of mainline, industrial, public agency, yard and terminal projects with Class I railroads, transit agencies, shortline railroads, and industrial clients. Civil and track construction assignments may include siding and mainline construction, special trackwork, utilities, drainage features, PTC and signal and communications construction. Structural construction may include railroad underpasses and retaining wall construction and public agency overpass/underpass inspection/coordination. The Rail Construction EIT will assist the construction manager with all facets of project execution including receiving and tracking RFIs, submittals and other data. The position requires reading, clearly understanding, and interpreting construction drawings and documents

In the role of Rail Construction EIT/Coordinator, we'll count on you to:
  • Conduct reviews and verifications of construction schedules, and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications for construction projects
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of spreadsheets, databases and scheduling software
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Ability to obtain PE preferred.
  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in railroad engineering preferred.
  • Interest in railroads preferred.
  • Preference given to local candidates with internship experience.

  • Knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, Scheduling Software, spreadsheets and databases
  • Interest and/or experience in the construction field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
