Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a conductor to join our team in the United States. You will start on the extra board to build seniority and must be available 24/7 with as little as 90 minutes’ notice, spending 2–3 days away from home each week.

Training lasts about 20 weeks at NS facilities, including classroom and field instruction. You must pass exams and meet safety standards to earn promotion and certification as a conductor.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Clean driving record in the past 36 months with no major disqualifying incidents.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, aligning drawbars, and applying hand brakes.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
