Job summary

Norfolk Southern invites applications for a Train Conductor to join a premier transportation network. You start on the extra board and bid on regular assignments as you gain seniority, with 24/7 on-call availability and 90 minutes’ notice. Expect 2–3 days away from home weekly while advancing your career.

The role requires passing FRA screenings, holding a valid license, and meeting physical requirements. Training lasts about 20 weeks with classroom, field, and on-the-job components, at multiple

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Clean driving record in the past 36 months, without restrictions due to drugs or alcohol.
• Must not have been involved in diversion or probation or pleaded guilty to a drug or alcohol-related driving incident.
• Must not have refused a drug or alcohol test related to motor vehicle operation.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, alignment, hand brakes tasks.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety rules.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
