Primary Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Discipline or Task Lead for railroad bridge/structural engineering/design projects, and support other offices for the Freight Rail Market Sector and other sectors as needed.
  • Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as develop design criteria, specifications, project guides, meeting notes, and perform cost estimates.
  • Perform planning, analysis, and design of railroad bridges and related transportation projects.
  • Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects.
  • Support client and stakeholder visits, site assessments, and construction inspections as needed.
  • Represent HDR at industry events.
  • Mentor junior staff and support technical development.
  • Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks.
  • Collaborate with clients across industries such as rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, and transit.
  • Provide leadership across technical disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's of Science in Structural Engineering.
  • S.E. license.
  • Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions.
  • Project management experience with rail, industrial, or transit clients.
  • Client development or management experience.
  • Construction inspection or management experience is a plus.
  • Experience in technical writing, communication, and presentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, spColumn, LUSAS.
  • Knowledge of AREMA guidelines and other railroad design standards.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis programs and bridge design software.
  • Desire to mentor staff and grow expertise in the railroad industry.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in bridge design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with standard bridge engineering procedures and structural details.
  • Ability to perform load calculations and geometric layouts.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software such as LEAPBridge, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge, Autodesk InfraWorks, Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, Prestress Concrete Design.
  • Experience managing junior staff.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork.
