Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position will be joining the 2023 AREMA Hay Award-winning team recognizing the most outstanding railway engineering project for the TRRA Merchants Bridge Replacement in St. Louis, MO. At Gannett Fleming TranSystems, we have established and continue to nurture a culture that is committed to providing quality services for our clients. We are looking for top talent to join our firm which has grown from 700 employees in 2021 to over 5000 employees in 2024 with the merger of Gannett Fleming.

Gannett Fleming TranSystems has an immediate opening for a Rail Bridge Engineer III to join our Omaha, NE office. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and other structures along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates. Duties may also include construction inspection services. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent communication skills, the ability to travel for projects, conduct field bridge inspections, and work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural bridge design utilizing current AREMA design standards. Calculate structural quantities.
  • Manage projects, including design, monitoring budgets and schedules, performing QC/QA reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with staff.
  • Develop and present proposals to clients with Client Managers.
  • Lead project meetings and negotiate project issues with clients.
  • Ensure project quality control and assurance.
  • Interpret contract changes and advise management.
  • Contribute to client marketing meetings.
  • Organize design calculations following TranSystems’ Quality Management Plan.
  • Check calculations and design drawings.
  • Assist with CADD drawing development and production.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Perform bridge inspections for highway and railway bridges.
  • Participate in construction inspection and field data collection as needed.
  • Ensure engineering design accuracy and project efficiency.
  • Maintain communication with the Senior Project Manager.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Travel within the U.S. as required.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in railroad project design/management.
  • PE registration.
  • Experience with AREMA standards and Class I railroad bridge standards.
  • Knowledge of Microstation, structural analysis software, and design documentation.
  • Strong communication and team skills.
  • Willingness to travel and perform field work.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering.
  • Experience with Class I railroads.
  • Active AREMA membership.
  • NHI Bridge Safety Inspection Course.
