Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking a RAG Data Engineer in Fort Meade, MD. You will build and operate data ingestion and search infrastructure powering Retrieval-Augmented Generation capabilities, connecting enterprise data with Amazon Bedrock and OpenSearch.

You will own ingestion, embedding, and indexing workflows, including document normalization, chunking, embeddings, metadata enrichment, and reliable upsert/delete operations.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and maintaining ETL/data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Experience implementing document normalization, parsing, chunking, content prep, and embeddings in data pipelines.
• Experience designing OpenSearch/Elasticsearch indexes, mappings, and shard management for performance.
• Experience implementing idempotent ingestion, including upsert/delete/replay/failure recovery.
• Experience with metadata modeling, enrichment, lineage, and version tracking.
• Experience with Python or other languages for data engineering/automation.
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker/ECS/EKS/Kubernetes).
• Ability to collaborate with engineering, security, cloud, and application teams.
• HS diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Own ingestion, embedding, and indexing workflows connecting data sources with Bedrock and OpenSearch.
• Design/optimize OpenSearch indexes, mappings, shard configs, and lifecycle policies.
• Develop scalable, secure data retrieval foundations for enterprise RAG apps.
• Ensure reliable upsert/delete operations and data lineage tracking.
