Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine is seeking a Radiology Technologist for the Radiology Department. The role is 100% onsite in the greater Chicagoland area, with responsibilities spanning diagnostic imaging, patient care, and adherence to safety and HIPAA standards.

Essential duties include evaluating orders, selecting exposure factors, ensuring imaging quality, preparing contrast media, and training new staff. On-call shifts, weekends, and holidays are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related medical field or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of a formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA approved program.
  • Certified by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within one year of hire.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
  • Proficient in performing diagnostic imaging and operating diagnostic equipment.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Good decision-making and judgment skills.
  • Continuing education as mandated by ARRT.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and radiology software/systems.
  • CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews physician's order to assure appropriateness of examination.
  • Selects exposure factors based on body part, pathology, patient age and equipment characteristics.
  • Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification.
  • Performs general diagnostic studies with correct protocol and evaluates images for diagnostic quality.
  • Prepares contrast media and assists in GI/GU studies.
  • Handles confidential information per HIPAA and regulations.
  • Interacts with patients and staff professionally; applies AIDET principles.
  • Maintains compliant physical work environment and infection control.
  • Maintains data integrity in PACS/RIS and assists training of technologists and students.
  • Rotating on-call responsibilities, weekends and holidays.

Job description

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Radiology Technologist in the Radiology Department. Here, you will perform diagnostic imaging studies as assigned, utilize appropriate principles of radiation protection, exercise professional judgement in the performance of imaging procedures and be responsible for providing care of patients in your charge. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Eligible for up to a $7,500 sign-on bonus

Essential Job Functions:
  • Reviews physician's order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors based on body part, pathology, patient's age and technical equipment characteristics.
  • Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification.
  • Performs a variety of general diagnostic studies with efficiency and high standards of quality, assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination and evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.
  • Prepares contrast media for administration to patients and assists physician in the performance of GI/GU studies.

  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation, and all other applicable federal, state, local and institutional regulations with regard to confidentiality.
  • Interfaces with customers, patients and their family members, medical staff and visitors in a friendly, professional manner. Demonstrates consistent use of the AIDET principles and demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies. Adheres to all infection control regulations. Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the online picture archive and the radiology information system by the consistent and accurate input of data into the system. Follow established workflows for workgroup. Assist in training new technologists and students. Will perform other duties as assigned.
  • Rotating on-call responsibilities, weekends and holiday work is required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in a related medical field of study or equivalent experience
  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA approved program
  • Certified by The American Registry of Radiological Technologists within one year of date of hire.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing diagnostic imaging
  • Functions proficiently with all technical equipment in diagnostic modality
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Good decision-making and judgment skills
  • Maintain required continuing education as mandated by The American Registry of Radiological Technologists
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of standard office practices and procedures along with knowledge of computers and software programs specific to the UCMC and the radiology department
  • CPR certification
