Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Chicago, IL seeks an OR Radiology Technologist focused on intraoperative imaging in the Radiology Department. This full-time, onsite role centers on providing imaging support in the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and collaborating with surgical teams.

New graduates are welcome; training will be provided. The OR will be the primary home base with occasional general radiology tasks.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a related medical field and AMA-approved radiologic technology training.
  • Certified by ARRT within one year of hire.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate radiology equipment and maintain infection control.

Responsibilities

  • Review physician orders for appropriateness.
  • Select exposure factors based on body part and patient factors.
  • Ensure proper positioning and image quality.
  • Prepare contrast media and assist GI/GU studies.
  • Maintain imaging data in PACS/RIS and assist training.

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system, University of Chicago Medicine, as an OR Radiology Technologist in the Radiology Department. We are seeking a skilled and dependable Radiology Technologist with a strong focus on operating room imaging. This role involves providing intraoperative radiographic support, maintaining sterile technique, and working closely with surgical teams to ensure timely and accurate imaging. New graduates are welcome to apply- additional training will be provided for those eager to learn and grow in the OR setting. This position will have the OR as its primary home base, with the expectation to assist in Adult General Radiology as needed. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity in Hyde Park. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.


As a Radiology Technologist, you will perform diagnostic imaging studies as assigned, utilize appropriate principles of radiation protection, exercise professional judgement in the performance of imaging procedures and be responsible for providing care of patients in your charge.



Eligible for up to a $15,000 sign-on bonus


Essential Job Functions


  • Reviews physician's order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.

  • Selects appropriate exposure factors based on body part, pathology, patient's age and technical equipment characteristics.

  • Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification.

  • Performs a variety of general diagnostic studies with efficiency and high standards of quality, assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination and evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.

  • Prepares contrast media for administration to patients and assists physician in the performance of GI/GU studies.

  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation, and all other applicable federal, state, local and institutional regulations with regard to confidentiality.

  • Interfaces with customers, patients and their family members, medical staff and visitors in a friendly, professional manner. Demonstrates consistent use of the AIDET principles and demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.

  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies. Adheres to all infection control regulations. Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.

  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the online picture archive and the radiology information system by the consistent and accurate input of data into the system. Follow established workflows for workgroup. Assist in training new technologists and students. Will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Rotating on-call responsibilities, weekends and holiday work is required.



Required Qualifications


  • Associates degree in a related medical field of study or equivalent experience

  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA approved program

  • Certified by The American Registry of Radiological Technologists within one year of date of hire.

  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing diagnostic imaging

  • Functions proficiently with all technical equipment in diagnostic modality

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Good decision-making and judgment skills

  • Maintain required continuing education as mandated by The American Registry of Radiological Technologists

  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.

  • Considerable knowledge of standard office practices and procedures along with knowledge of computers and software programs specific to the UCMC and the radiology department

  • CPR certification

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.


The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
