Job summary

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to uphold safe and effective diagnostic imaging under supervision. You will engage in radiographic procedures, ensure patient comfort, document doses, and collaborate with physicians and staff in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements include ARRT certification in Diagnostic Radiology and a preference for state licensure. Proficiency with EPIC EHR and PACS is expected, with on-site responsibilities at multiple Charleston locations.

Qualifications

• ARRT certification in Diagnostic Radiology required.
• State licensure preferred where applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire for locations; prior to independent patient care at specific sites.

Responsibilities

• Obtains patient history and labs for imaging referrals.
• Positions and immobilizes patients for diagnostic imaging.
• Applies ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
• Operates imaging equipment to perform radiographic procedures.
• Verifies consent and completes pre/post procedure documentation.
• Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic procedures and aseptic technique.
• Documents patient dose exposures and records orders in medical chart.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position:

The Radiological Technologist is a certified health professional who, under the direction of an authorized user, is committed to applying the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation, in diagnostic radiology.

Essential Job Functions:

• Obtains patient's clinical history and appropriate lab work ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
• Positions and immobilizes patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
• Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Performs radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment, and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
• Verifies informed consent and completes pre and post procedure documentation.
• Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures. Applies appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed.
• Performs timeout as required per policy.
• Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Receives relays and documents verbal, written and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
• Evaluates images for technical quality.
• Documents patient dose exposures.
• Professionally interacts with physicians, technologist, physician offices, hospital staff, patient family members and patients.
• Operates radiographic equipment and accessories in accordance with the principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable).

Education

• Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferrred)

Certifications

• Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Diagnostic Radiology (required)
• State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
• BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)

Training

• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
• Picture archiving communiation system (PACS) (preferred)

Experience

• 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred)
• Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred)
