Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an MRI technologist to ensure proper patient identification and exam preparation while maintaining strict confidentiality. The role involves applying MRI protocols, maximizing safety per ALARA, and assisting with interventional MRI procedures under licensed supervision.

The candidate will perform MRI procedures, optimize image quality, educate staff and students, and adhere to MRI safety standards to minimize risk to patients and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Certification by ARRT, NMTCB, or ARMRIT required at hire.
  • New graduates must obtain ARRT-R, ARRT-MR, NMTCB or ARMRIT prior to first day.
  • MRI safety and interventional procedures experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct order, patient identification, and proper exam preparation with confidentiality.
  • Utilizes MRI protocol and optimizes technical factors maximizing safety and ALARA.
  • Assists licensed practitioner with MRI interventional procedures.
  • Performs MRI procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for positioning and quality; verifies data storage/transfer.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Applies MRI safety principles to minimize risk to patient and staff.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences per protocol and data acquisition factors.
  • Participates in MRI safety implant investigation and approval process.

Job description

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Applying principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assisting the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selecting appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • MRI safety knowledge and participates in MRI Safety implant investigation and approval process.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Certification Board (NMTCB)

American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)

New graduates must obtain ARRT-R registryor primary ARRT-MRor NMTCBor ARMRITprior to first day of employment.

Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level 2, including advanced certification, within 24 months.
