Job description

Job Objective:

Under the direction of the Section Supervisor, Assistant Director and Director of Radiology Services, Radiology Technologist II performs a wide variety of radiographic procedures and complex duties requiring a high degree of accuracy with latitude for independent initiative and judgment. Promotes, follows and adheres to the values set by AVH. Provides technical assistance in planning, organizing and controlling the work flow in order to accomplish the objectives of our department. Delivery of quality customer services which meets or exceeds expectations to patients, physicians, physician office staff, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to be on your feet 95% of the time and physically able to assist in lifting patients that could weight 200+ pounds from stretchers and wheelchairs to and from the x-ray table.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking or standing with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a shift.
  • Prepares room, equipment and materials for radiograph/procedure.
  • Courteously greets, identifies and introduces yourself to the patients and escorts to and from exam room.
  • Prepare patient for exam, discuss and explain procedure to patient.
  • Perform radiographic exams and procedures using proper technique.
  • Positions patient in safe and proper manner for exam.
  • Assist the patient before, during, and after the procedure as needed. Prepare contrast material as required.
  • Maintain observation of patient and equipment for duration of exam. Does not exceed department’s repeat rate standard.
  • Follows guidelines for radiation protection for patient and staff while maintaining quality of diagnostic imaging.
  • Qualified to perform radiographic procedures in OR, ER, Nursing Floors, portable procedures, and within the department and process exams.
  • Willing to work in any area, and flexible in meeting the needs of the department.
  • Evaluate radiographs for good quality.
  • Uses good technical/patient skills.
  • Uses proper work methods with injured patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of age specific groups.
  • Participates in age-specific educational training programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in required age-specific competencies.
  • Willing to work in any area and flexible in meeting the needs of the department.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Transfer patients to and from Radiology as necessary.
  • Schedule exams as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prepares room, equipment and materials for radiograph/procedure.
  • Follows guidelines for radiation protection for patient and staff.
  • Knowledge of quality control and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Qualified to perform radiographic procedures in OR, ER, Nursing Floors, portable procedures, and within the department and process exams.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Graduated from ARRT Accredited Radiological Technology Program.

Experience:

  • 2 years of hospital setting experience preferred.

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

  • CRT State of California.
  • RT ARRT.
  • Fluoroscopy certification.
  • Venipuncture preferred.
  • BLS certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Able to perform duties in a normal hospital radiology department environment.
  • May be required to work in areas that include high noise levels, cool temperatures, dim lighting, and radiation exposure.
  • Position requires frequent standing and walking with occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling and lifting as related to patient care.
  • Job requires handling of patients.
  • Position requires occasional lifting of 10-25 lbs. and pushing/pulling of 21-35 lbs.
