About this position

Townsen Surgery Center - East Dallas is looking for a Radiology Technologist to join our team in Mesquite, Texas.

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for operating X‑ray and fluoroscopic equipment under the direction of the Medical Director/Physician.

Responsibilities

• Assures that all materials and other required equipment are present and in working order.
• Selects proper ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis.
• Positions patient and adjusts equipment to obtain the best quality x‑ray of the specific body area requested by the physician.
• Adjusts and sets radiographic controls, such as kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for proper timing of exposure.
• Sets up and operates radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.
• Protects patient and other personnel from radiation hazards, taking preventative steps to minimize radiation exposure.
• Regulates the length and intensity of film exposure.
• Implements infection control procedures for the work area.
• Conducts X‑ray, checks X‑ray clarity, and retakes X‑rays when needed.
• Distributes films to appropriate medical staff and transfers images to electronic medical records (EMR).
• Maintains quantity and quality control checks to assure the X‑ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy.
• Performs radiographic procedures for patients in surgery.
• Maintains, cleans, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining repairs needed for equipment.
• Maintains radiographic supplies, film, and equipment.
• Follows all safety rules, corrects minor safety hazards, reports all accidents promptly, and communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
• Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
• Adheres to the company standards of business conduct.
• Performs other duties as assigned per discretion of medical provider and facility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of human anatomy.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures.
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques.
• Knowledge of how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
• Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications.
• Strong attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
• Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment.
• Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X‑ray procedure required.
• Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
• Ability to comply with facility policies and procedures and continuing mandatory education programs.
• Has self-control to maintain composure, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations.
• Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes.
• Ability to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues.
• Ability to perform high quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
• Ability to adapt with flexibility, being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
• Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending on one’sself to get things done.
• Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
