Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Radiology Technologist in Austin, TX to perform X-ray, CT, and MRI imaging. You will position patients, operate imaging equipment, and ensure image quality for diagnostic purposes.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in radiology or medical imaging.
  • Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field (preferred).
  • Three years of experience as Radiology Tech or in a similar role (preferred).
  • Certification in MRI or CT imaging (preferred).

  • Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.

  • Follow physicians’ orders and conform to regulations concerning radiation use.
  • Administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice.
  • Review and evaluate developed X-rays or images for diagnostic quality.
  • Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment and maintain patient records.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and reactions during and after imaging procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain a clean imaging suite and necessary supplies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Education

Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or related field

Responsibilities
Patient Preparation and Positioning
  • Explain imaging procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
  • Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
Imaging Procedures
  • Operate radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation.
  • Administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice.
Image Evaluation and Quality Control
  • Review and evaluate developed X-rays or computer-generated images to determine if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment to ensure it is safe and in working order.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
Patient Care and Support
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and reactions during and after imaging procedures.
  • Address any patient concerns or adverse reactions promptly.
  • Provide post-procedure instructions and support to patients.
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs, and placing orders.
  • Ensure a clean and organized working environment in the imaging suite.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in radiology or medical imaging.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Radiology Tech or in a similar role.
  • Certification in MRI or CT imaging.
SALARY RANGE

$70,000 + depending on qualifications

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
  • Standard office equipment.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard.
  • May be exposed to occupational hazards including communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients, among others.

Employment Eligibility

Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
