Job summary

AHMC HealthCare is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to provide high-quality radiographs under general supervision and rotate on standby to ensure radiology coverage. The role requires patient communication, safe positioning, and adherence to ALARA in selecting technique parameters.

The technologist will review images for diagnostic quality and uphold radiation safety regulations. Ideal candidates will have graduated from an accredited radiology program, hold ARRT certification, and possess CRT

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology program.
  • Possess ARRT national certification.
  • State Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist (CRT).
  • Maintain current CRT certification and BCLS.
  • Fluoroscopy certification preferred.
  • Experience of 1+ year in radiology tech role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality radiographs for diagnostic use under supervision.
  • Explain procedures and position patients on the exam table.
  • Select technique parameters following ALARA principles.
  • Review digital images for diagnostic quality and safety.
  • Maintain radiation safety and protective devices per government regulations.
  • Transport patients to the Radiology Department and support workflow.

Job description

  • Under general supervision, but not direct supervision, provides the necessary top quality radiograph for diagnosis of patients referred to X-ray Department, will rotate on stand‑by schedule as required for radiology coverage. Performs work related duties as assigned or as required. Candidates will be efficient in performing radiology procedures.
  • Candidates will explain procedures to the patients, comfort, and position patients on the exam table.
  • Candidates will select technique parameters in keeping with ALARA. The candidate will review and evaluate digital images for quality to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Candidates will use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Candidates’ job skills require excellent written and verbal communication, sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of patients. Attention to detail and the ability to follow a physician's instructions will be important to the success of working in a team concept.
  • Position requires stamina transporting patients to/from the hospital bed to the Radiology Department.
  • Candidate will be required to rotate on call and work variable shifts and weekends.

Education, Experience, Training
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology
  • Pass a National Test (ARRT)
  • State Licensed (CRT)
  • Must hold a current certificate of the CRT
  • Current BCLS required (AHA)
  • Must hold a current Fluor certification
  • At least one year of experience as a Radiology Technologist preferred, or was assigned student rotation with Garfield Medical radiology program.
  • Always checks patient identification band before transporting and before any procedure is performed.

Transports the patient, safely, on the proper transportation device both to and from the Radiology department; Always informs the nurses' station when a patient has left and returned; Signs appropriate documents. Refers to the departmental procedure manual to ensure that all standard views are taken; Refers to requisition for any special instructions that the physician or Radiologist may have indicated; Always takes pictures at all angles as requested by physician. Checks equipment, accessories and supplies; Keeps area stocked at all times, cleans after each use; Daily cleans Radiology room. Performs general office duties; Answering phone, filing, scheduling patients, writing-up reports, maintaining patient records, etc.; Functions as a department receptionist, as requested. Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the shift without interference to the quality of work. Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary; Demonstrates flexibility in view of interruptions; Functions as a steadily productive technologist. Demonstrates the ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations when time is critical. Maintains room, materials, equipment, and medicine as needed for patients in a ready state, in order to increase overall efficiency of procedures. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist others as requested; Always assists in other areas of the department such as receptionist duties, clerical duties, and other assignments as requested by the supervisor or Radiology; Always uses time for departmental advantage. Reports free-time to supervisor asks what needs to be done and readily volunteers for additional work; Demonstrates competence in the routine performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Radiology. Assists in the institutional in-service programs for both staff and nursing as requested by the Radiologist or supervisor. Assists in developing the skills of other staff members in particular areas of expertise, as requested. Demonstrates a knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire and safety, and infection control; Has a complete knowledge of radiation safety procedures. Always refers unsolved problems to the appropriate person. Assists others in the department as requested. Checks requisitions throughout shift to make sure that all procedures are completed as appropriate. Utilizes supportive personnel effectively so as to concentrate on patient care responsibilities; plans schedules for students as required. Assumes personal responsibility for on-going education and professional development. Always maintains supplies at par value levels; Inventories and orders as necessary. Assists in the cleaning and organizing of the entire department on own initiative; Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in areas of responsibility at all times. Assists in the instruction of students. Responsible for being orientated and trained prior to using new equipment. Practices preventive maintenance procedures and reports all needed repairs to supervisor. Follows through on procedures; Reports any incomplete assignments to ensure continuity or procedures. Attends required in-service/orientation education programs and/or hospital meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.
