Overview

Radiology Technical Assistant

PRN - shifts vary as needed

A Technical Assistant, under the direction of the Manager of Radiology Services or assigned leader, is responsible for transporting patients, assisting in lifting, moving, and attending to patients, and utilizing direct patient care duties. They are responsible for maintaining cleanliness of transportation equipment and patient waiting and dressing areas, assisting in the radiology offices and assigned imaging areas. May be assigned specific technical responsibilities for patient preparation and assisting technologists as needed. Functions involving exposure of patients to radiation, ultrasound, or magnetic sequences are not assigned. The role also includes assisting with office work and secretarial duties as warranted. The Technical Assistant supports the mission and goals of UnityPoint Health - Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Responsibilities

Communication and Interaction

  • Demonstrate good patient communication and perform patient care activities.
  • Assist technologists with transportation of patients to and from the Imaging Department.
  • Maintain professional conduct, privacy, and confidentiality regarding patients and their records.
  • Communicate professionally with staff and physicians, seeking guidance when needed.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are available and monitor waste to promote efficient use.
  • Promote a positive public relations image through professional interactions.
  • Support professional learning for students and new hires through instruction and supervision.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement projects and educational opportunities.
  • Adapt positively to change, embracing new ideas and responsibilities.
  • Work to improve customer satisfaction, set realistic expectations, and respond to internal customer feedback.
  • Build strong communication and relationships, handle constructive criticism, and participate in team and departmental meetings.
  • Communicate vital information regarding patient care to Imaging staff.
  • Prioritize work and make independent decisions based on departmental needs.

Equipment and Regulatory Management

  • Utilize information systems and maintain documentation for workflow and compliance.
  • Perform care and maintenance of transport equipment, including cleaning and inspection.
  • Follow current protocols and participate in equipment and safety regulations adherence.
  • Contribute to annual inspections and ensure compliance with all regulations.

Quality and Procedure Management

  • Coordinate modality exams with other tests to optimize patient care.
  • Deliver high-quality, accurate, and timely patient care.
  • Identify problems proactively, seek responsibilities, and suggest improvements.
  • Practice safety precautions and dispose of hazardous materials properly.
  • Complete daily tasks efficiently, rotating through responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CNA certification in IA - Preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare or direct patient care - Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license for work-related driving
  • Current CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
  • CNA certification in IA - Preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in direct patient care and computer systems related to EMR & Radiology Imaging
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and office equipment
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, adaptability, and safety awareness
