Job summary

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in radiology.
  • Experience in Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and General Surgery preferred.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Radiology, the Radiology Tech performs professional duties in areas, sections, or department as assigned. The role includes routine and special radiographic examinations for patients ranging in age from infancy to geriatrics, ensuring high quality images while maintaining patient safety and radiation protection standards.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of digital stationary and mobile radiographic equipment (GE Rad Revolution, GE Precision 500, Samsung DR Workstation, Samsung DR Portable, OEC 9900 C‑ARM, Medtronic O‑Arm, etc.) to produce quality radiographs.
  • Perform routine radiographic examinations in accordance with established standards and techniques.
  • Perform special procedures in the department and in the Operating Room as directed.
  • Determine patient positioning and exposure time for best possible results on all radiographs.
  • Record type, number of radiographs in a series, and exposure time on the requisition to provide accurate technical data.
  • Ensure proper identification of all radiographs as required for medical‑legal standards.
  • Assist other technologists when necessary and instruct them upon request to maintain high performance standards.
  • Enter exams performed and orders in Cerner Electronic Medical Record for all exams performed.
  • Check all orders for accuracy and directions.
  • Recognize and report adverse signs to physicians.
  • Maintain awareness of the patient’s physical and emotional condition and report adverse signs to physicians or supervisory personnel.
  • Keep the work area neat and orderly, and maintain an inventory of supplies in the assigned area.
  • Report equipment malfunction to management and ensure proper functioning of equipment.
  • Verify appropriate information in the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) and ensure images are sent to PACS, STATRAD, and EXA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Completion of an American Medical Association Council on Medical Education approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.
  • BLS/CPR Certified.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and General Surgery preferred.
  • Extreme accuracy and care are required to determine exposure time and correct patient positioning.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and hospital personnel.
  • Capacity to work cooperatively with others and under pressure.
  • Willingness to stay alert to technical developments and adapt to them.
