GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Manager, Radiology, the Radiology Tech performs professional duties in assigned areas, sections, or departments. Performs routine radiographic procedures and specialized technical procedures, applying prescribed radiation for radiologic diagnosis on patients from infancy to geriatrics. These duties are performed in strict confidentiality, aligning with Insight Hospital and Medical Center's mission, values, and behaviors. DESCRIPTION:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine radiographic examinations according to established standards and techniques.
  • Perform special procedures in the department and operating room as directed.
  • Determine patient positioning and exposure time for optimal results.
  • Record details of radiographs, including type, number, and exposure time, accurately on requisitions.
  • Ensure proper identification of radiographs for legal standards. Assist other technologists as needed.
  • Use radiation protection and shielding to adhere to federal and state guidelines.
  • Enter exam information into Cerner Electronic Medical Record system accurately.
  • Review all orders for accuracy and proper instructions.
  • Recognize and report adverse signs to physicians.
  • Monitor patient's physical and emotional condition, reporting any concerns.
  • Maintain a neat work area and inventory of supplies.
  • Stay updated on advancements in radiology and participate in professional organizations.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or needs for adjustments to ensure proper functioning.
  • Verify correct information in PACS and ensure images are transmitted properly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE:

High School Diploma required. Completion of an AMA-accredited School of Radiologic Technology. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety licensing. BLS/CPR certification required.

SKILLS:

Accuracy and careful attention to exposure time and patient positioning are essential.

ABILITIES:

Effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff. Ability to position patients correctly and adapt techniques as needed. Work well under pressure, stay alert to technical developments, and be willing to learn and adapt.
