The licensed Radiology Technician performs activities that enhance patient care and contribute to the organization and efficiency of the department. The Radiology Technician supplies total radiographic support for the facility, performs routine radiographic procedures, processes radiographs, and performs various procedures as necessary to provide accurate diagnostic information to on-site physicians for high-quality patient care. Additionally, the Radiology Technician may perform medical assistant duties to support patient care, providing clinical care within their competence as delegated and supervised by the physician/provider.

DUTIES:
  • Operate stationary equipment to produce quality radiographs.
  • Perform routine radiographic procedures and examinations according to established standards and techniques.
  • Determine patient positioning and exposure time for optimal radiograph results.
  • Use radiation protection and shielding properly.
  • Wear a radiation monitoring badge, assessed monthly for proper radiation levels.
  • Keep x-ray room doors closed during examinations for safety.
  • Process radiographs.
  • Collect and process patient specimens per lab protocol, including entering orders in MAPS and completing requisitions.
  • Perform EKGs as directed by physician/provider according to CV lab protocol.
  • Perform PFTs, audio exams, drug and alcohol testing.
  • Check all orders for accuracy and clarity.
  • Enter all exam orders into MAPS and Radnet.
  • Record radiograph details and exposure times in logs.
  • Complete and charge all exams using department-specific software.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Prepare patients for examinations according to protocol.
  • Communicate procedures clearly to patients.
  • Position and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and emotional conditions, reporting adverse signs to the physician to ensure high-quality care.
  • Ensure proper handling and routing of films for interpretation.
  • Maintain inventory levels of supplies and medications, removing outdated items.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Enter and retrieve registration and other pertinent information in the computer.
  • Handle multiple tasks, prioritizing effectively.
  • Perform Medical Assistant duties as certified, including specimen collection, Breath Alcohol Testing, PFTs, audiograms, phlebotomy, history-taking, vision tests, and EKGs.
  • Enter orders for all exams performed.
  • Document radiographic procedures on super-bill.
  • Perform other duties to facilitate efficient medical care as directed.
  • Flex to network sites as needed to meet patient care needs.
  • Possess knowledge of patient care and emergency procedures.
  • Adjust care according to age-specific competencies.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities and continuing education.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or needs for adjustment.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications, participate in professional organizations.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, disposal of chemicals used in radiology.
  • Assist in accurate billing and documentation of services.
  • Attend staff meetings at clinic and system-wide levels.
  • Coordinate efficient use of examination rooms to maintain optimal patient flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Completion of an AMA-accredited School of Radiological Technology.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.
  • CPR certification.
  • Two or more years of experience in an ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Experience with electronic documentation preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Ability to adapt to workflow changes, multitask, and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Initiative in patient advocacy and mentoring new staff.
