Job Summary
The Radiology Technologist Special Procedures II performs specialized radiologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases. This role requires expertise in handling advanced imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety, and following precise protocols to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. The Technologist collaborates with medical teams to deliver comprehensive patient care and supports the maintenance of imaging technology. Assists in leadership responsibilities within the Special Procedures department.
Essential Functions
- Provides technical skills involving radiology and fluoroscopy, including taking, labeling, and printing radiographs, and uploading them to electronic records.
- Ensures all persons in the room are properly shielded before activating x-ray.
- Maintains records of apron quality and performs yearly apron checks.
- Cleans and maintains x-ray equipment, ensuring timely preventive maintenance and regulatory surveys.
- Educates staff on radiation devices, adhering to ALARA and radiation safety rules.
- Tracks dosimetry badges and maintains badge cycle and process.
- Participates in regulatory surveys as appropriate.
- Applies aseptic, surgical, and radiological techniques, including tray preparation, sterile draping, and patient preparation.
- Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques for interventional/invasive procedures.
- Prepares equipment and instruments for procedures, verifies informed consent, and prepares patients accordingly.
- Recognizes and responds to physician needs during procedures.
- Provides patient education before exams and post-procedure instructions.
- Performs digital imaging techniques correctly.
- Manages inventory of angiography items and purchases supplies cost-effectively.
- Performs hemostasis protocols, uses proper catheter removal techniques, and follows sedation policies.
- Follows pre- and post-monitoring protocols for invasive procedures.
- Assists with workflow and ensures completion of work assignments.
- Reviews examinations for technical accuracy, presents to radiologists, and communicates with patient care team.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- 1-3 years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
- 3-5 years of experience in Special Procedures/IR/ASC preferred.

Licenses and Certifications
- ARRT certification required.
- BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS and PALS certifications as required.
